This summer, I started taking pottery classes at my local art museum’s studio. I have wanted to explore 3D art and pottery for many years, but have not had access to classes or time to take them until now.

Starting in early May, I began taking a six-week wheel-throwing pottery class, which included formal instruction once a week, along with some open-studio time.

Wheel-throwing is a humbling experience; it is a delicate balance between controlling the clay and letting the clay control you. Each step of the process introduces new challenges to overcome, but just like any artistic medium, practice makes… slightly better, then slightly better, then slightly better.

Since starting, ceramics has become one of my favorite mediums, taking up most of my creative energy for the past few months. Exploring different forms and techniques allows for a seemingly unlimited range of pieces to make, which makes me excited about continuing on my ceramics journey in the future.
